Women’s football & Drogheda United

To my fellow Drogheda United supporters,

It is a great honour for me to have been recently appointed as Head of Women’s Football for Drogheda United. I grew up cheering on Drogheda United from the terraces and I’m very excited to now be involved in helping to progress the women’s section of the club.

There has been great work done in the club with the underage girls already, by Graham Campbell, in particular, along with the other coaches. There are currently two Under 12 teams and an Under 16 girls’ team, with a newly formed U8 and U10 section. We’re looking for more players born in 2012-2015, to add to these teams (contact number below!).

I’d like to congratulate Graham and the U16 Drogheda United Girls’ team on their recent League win in an exciting play-off final game vs Malahide United.

Drogheda United will be ensuring that there is a sustainable pathway for girls and women’s football in the North East area. We will be starting with the formation of an U17 Women’s team in the Women’s National League for the season ahead in 2023. Players born in 2006 and 2007 will be eligible to attend trials, which will begin in November 2022. I’d encourage any players that may be interested, to get in touch with the club now so they can be contacted closer to the time.

In the coming seasons, we aim to add an U19’s and then a Women’s Senior team to provide a full pathway for the local players. I’m very excited and passionate about ensuring that there will be the same opportunities for the girls and women, as there is for the boys and men.

I have no doubt that the fans will get behind the girls and the women too. There is a great sense of pride and community spirit around Drogheda United Football Club and I look forward to seeing our super fans cheering on the girls and women in the Claret and Blue very soon.

We are Drogs!
