Job Title: Chief Executive Officer – Drogheda United Football Club

Job Overview:
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Drogheda United is responsible for overseeing the overall business and sporting operations of the club. This senior leadership role involves managing key areas such as business/football operations, commercial activities, marketing, finance, and human resources in a cross functional manner across all departments. The CEO ensures the club’s short and long-term success both on and off the field aligns with operations, strategic vision, and financial sustainability of the organization.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in business administration, sports management, and/or a related field, with extensive experience in leadership roles within football or sports organizations.
Key Responsibilities:
Commercial & Business Development:
- Develop, execute, and grow commercial strategies to increase revenue streams through sponsorships, partnerships, merchandising, and ticket sales.
- Manage and improve relationships with key stakeholders, including sponsors, league representatives, volunteers, local and national Government and the local community.
- Oversee the marketing and communications team to drive fan engagement, brand development, and media presence.
- Monitor market trends to capitalize on new business opportunities and innovations in the football industry.
Football Operations:
- Oversee the club’s football operations day-to-day in market working with and supporting First Team Manager and support staff, Academy Director, Ownership Group, the Board, Club Secretary, employees and designated volunteers.
- Responsibilities including oversight of player administration, contracts, negotiations, and operational management of the First Team and Academy.
- Work closely with the First Team Manager, Academy Director and technical staff to align the football strategy with the clubs business operations, and ownership groups long-term goals and strategic planning.
- Ensure compliance with league/FAI regulations, player registration, and transfer procedures in conjunction with Club Secretary
- Manage the budget for operations, player salaries, transfers, and other football-related expenses with ownerships executive team.
Financial Management:
- Oversee the club’s financial health, including budgeting, financial planning, and reporting.
- Present regular financial updates to the club’s Board and ensure compliance with all financial regulations and governance standards.
Stadium & Matchday Operations:
- Support the matchday operations team to ensure a positive and seamless experience for fans, players, and staff.
- Work with the Operations Manager to oversee stadium operations, including facility maintenance, security, and event logistics.
- Ensure the stadium complies with safety regulations and league requirements for hosting matches.
Human Resources & Leadership:
- Lead and manage the club’s administrative, commercial, and football operations teams.
- Foster a positive, inclusive work culture that promotes collaboration and high performance.
- Oversee the recruitment, development, and retention of key talent within the organization.
- Act as the face of the club both at a local and national level.
Strategic Planning:
- Work with the club’s Shareholders and Board to develop and implement a long-term strategic plan that ensures the club’s growth, sustainability, and competitive success.
- Align all departments with the club’s vision and values, ensuring a unified approach across football and business operations.
Governance & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all league, regulatory, and financial rules, including financial fair play, player contracts, and health and safety regulations.
- Stay informed about changes in league rules and the broader football industry to ensure the club remains compliant and competitive.
Community Engagement:
- Build strong relationships with local communities, supporters, and fan groups.
- Support community outreach programs and ensure the club maintains a positive and active presence in the local area.
Reporting Structure:
- This role reports directly to Wesley Hill, the Executive Director of Drogheda United from Trivela Group and will work cross functionally with the wider Drogheda United Board Trivela Group executive team.
