United Park continues as Head in the Game Park for 2022

United Park will continue to be named as Head in the Game Park for the 2022 season.

Head in the Game is a movement set up by a group of Irish football fans to raise awareness of the importance of mental health across the football community.

Ahead of the 2021 season, United Park was renamed to Head in the Game Park. This came after Joanna Byrne won our patrons draw to choose a charity after which to name United Park.

“It’s a privilege and an honour for us to have our name used by Drogheda United FC for the second successive season. Our message is simple, we want to provoke a conversation about mental health and well-being in Irish football.

“This fabulous gesture will only result in more people becoming aware of who we are and what we’re about. Huge thank you to all involved in making it happen and best of luck with the season ahead,” said Dean Arrowsmith, Chairperson of Head In The Game.

Since their set up in August 2020, the group have continued to increase the awareness of speaking about mental health.

May 2021 saw each club captain in the Premier and First Division, and the Women’s National League wear Head in the Game armbands for Mental Health Awareness Month.

The group were also named an official charity partner of the PFAI and saw the PFAI Young Player of the Year award named after the campaign.

“The battle for good mental health is ongoing. At Drogheda United we have a duty to do more to help others and we pledge to work closely with Head in the Game to make a tangible difference in 2022.

“We start by continuing with the naming of United Park as Head in the Game Park for the season ahead. We urge everyone across Irish football and across our wider communities to work together to provide hope and support to those who maybe struggling,” Conor Hoey, Drogheda United Chairman.
