Thank you, Gary Deegan

All at Drogheda United would like to thank Gary Deegan for his dedication and contribution over the last four seasons, as he departs the club following the expiration of his contract.

The 37-year-old first joined the club ahead of the 2021 season and made 68 appearances across his first two seasons in claret and blue.

Gary was named club captain by manager Kevin Doherty in 2023, when he made a further 38 appearances, to surpass the 100 appearance milestone for the club.

Deegan played 28 times for the club in 2024, with his final appearance coming in the FAI Cup Final triumph against Derry City.

“I want to thank Gary from the bottom of my heart for his four seasons with the club, in particular the last three years since I became manager, and made him club captain,” manager Kevin Doherty said.

“He is an example to every player with his work ethic and the dedication he brings, showing what it takes to be a successful professional footballer.

“Not only has he been an inspirational leader for the group, he is also a fantastic player. I wish him nothing but success in the future,” Doherty expressed.
