A second half finish from Jordan Adeyemo earned Drogheda United a point away to Longford Town on Saturday after the home side had taken an early lead through Rob Manley.

Manley was denied a second by Odumosu on 15 minutes as the Drogheda keeper saved well with his feet while Mark Doyle went closest for Drogheda in the first half.

“I thought conceding early maybe just caught us cold and affected our performance for the next 10-15 mins. 

“It took us longer than usual to get going but I thought bar a small spell in the second half we were on top and playing on the front foot and unlucky not to nick 3 points,” said captain Jake Hyland.

Half-time saw manager Tim Clancy make two changes with Jordan Adeyemo and James Clarke coming on for Chris Lyons and Richie O’Farrell. 

Within six minutes of the restart, Drogheda were level as a brilliant ball from the right from James Brown was controlled by Adeyemo, who then finished past Steacy.

“We just needed the half to come and to regroup obviously Tim made the two changes and I think we made a much better start to the second half started playing on the front foot and picking up second balls. 

“It was important we weathered the storm in the first half and stayed in the game because it could be an important point come the next few weeks.”

Next up for Drogheda is another away game, this time a trip to Andy Myler’s UCD who themselves beat Cobh Ramblers 6-0 on Saturday night.

“Look, they are all big games now. There’s no easy games to play but we’re all looking forward to it, a perfect pitch to play on and a good strong side so we’ll need to be at our best to get 3 points,” Hyland said.
