Drogheda United captain Jake Hyland has been speaking to droghedaunited.ie ahead of Sunday’s league encounter with Shamrock Rovers II in Tallaght Stadium.
Games are currently being held behind closed doors, something the players have got used to with three friendlies in recent weeks.
“It’s definitely going to be strange and something we are not used to but it’s the same for both teams so we just need to adapt.
“Hopefully supporters can come back before the end of the season,” Hyland said.
Tim Clancy’s side last played a competitive game on March 6, beating UCD 5-1 in United Park, with Mark Doyle, Jordan Adeyemo, Chris Lyons, Jack Tuite and Sean Brennan all on the scoresheet.
“We are coming off the back of a brilliant performance against UCD so long ago and we have worked hard since the restart and played three Premier Division teams” Hyland explained.
The season has now been shortened to 18 games, with three of those games already played before the season was put on hold.
“There is a massive amount of motivation within the group coming from the players and all the staff.
“We really feel fresh since the lockdown. Training has been sharp and enjoyable so all the lads are raring to go.
“The aim is to go to Tallaght on Sunday, get three points and move onto the next game.”
