Kevin Doherty’s Drogheda United face Keith Long’s Bohemians at Head in the Game Park on Friday evening in the third meeting of the sides this season.
Drogheda come into this game following a 1-0 win at home to Dundalk last week, bouncing back from a 3-0 defeat away to St. Patrick’s Athletic the week previous.
The Boynesiders were in front inside a minute as Evan Weir broke forward on the left, linking with Markey before playing a ball towards Dean Williams in the box.
Andy Boyle didn’t clear his lines and Dean Williams turned in the box and fired the ball into the top corner with his first touch of the game after just 53 seconds.
David McMillan went close with a header minutes later while both sides saw the ball flash across goal on a number of occasions. Dundalk made five second half changes, but saw their best chance cleared off the line by Gary Deegan before Weir blocked Ryan O’Kane’s follow up.
Williams was denied by a fine Shepperd save before Darragh Nugent twice went close in added time, but it was Williams first minute strike that sealed the three points for Doherty’s side.
In team news, Dylan Grimes, Dane Massey, and Adam Foley are doubtful as they look to recover from injury. Grimes and Massey both missed the derby win while Foley was forced off with an injury fifteen minutes into the game.
Doubtful: Dylan Grimes, Dane Massey, Adam Foley.
