Drogheda United are delighted to announce that Mark Hughes has signed a new deal with the club.
Hughes is the fifth player to be announced from Tim Clancy’s 2021 Premier Division squad.
The midfielder is currently in his second spell with the Boynesiders, having first played with Drogheda in the Premier Division in 2015, making 26 appearances.
Hughes re-joined the club in 2019 from Shelbourne and has now made 63 appearances for the Boynesiders, scoring one goal, in a defeat to Cabinteely.
“It’s a no brainer to sign back. It’s a young, exciting, attacking team Tim and Kev have built the last few years.
“It’s brilliant to play for them, they give players confidence to go and express themselves. They have a very modern approach to the game and I’m excited to see how we fare next year,” Hughes said.
“The aims I think for any newly promoted team is to solidify themselves in the league. A good start would obviously be important to build momentum. Personally, my aims are to play as many games as I can, stay fit and injury free and help the team as much as I can.
“I missed the only two games with fans last season through injury so I played the whole season behind closed doors and it’s just not the same.
“That was the only negative of winning the league, not to be able to share that with the fans in person.
“Hopefully we can get back to some normality next year and have a packed United Park like it should be,” Hughes said.
