Drogheda United are delighted to announce the signing of Luke Wade Slater from Warrenpoint Town, subject to international clearance.
The versatile midfielder, who can also play in defence, joins Kevin Doherty’s side following a two year spell with Warrenpoint Town.
Wade Slater began his senior career at Stevenage, playing with the English side from 2015 to 2018, which also included a loan spell at Kings Langley in late 2018. He then returned to Ireland, signing for Bohemians in January 2019.
Luke made 35 appearances for Bohemians before making the switch to Larne in October 2020.
The former Ireland underage international spent the last two seasons with Warrenpoint, making over 70 appearances for The Point during his spell with the club.
“Luke’s a great lad. Obviously he came out of the season up North and hadn’t been training for a while with their season being different to ours, so it took him a while to get up to speed.
“He’s versatile, can play a number of positions. It’s good to have a couple of players who can do that but I do have a position in mind for him. He’s a really exciting player, and he’ll be a really good addition for us,” manager Kevin Doherty said.
Wade Slater is the third new addition of the transfer window, and joins after training with the club in recent weeks.
“I’ve really enjoyed it, getting back into football after some time off. It’s been tough but it’s been good, getting up to pace for the games left to go, to impact the squad.
“I’m versatile, right-back or either wing are the main areas I’ve probably played growing up, I’d be comfortable in those positions.
“There’s loads of big games coming up now so I want to come in and help the team, make an impact,” Wade Slater said.
