Luke Heeney signs new deal for 2022

Drogheda United are delighted to announce that midfielder Luke Heeney has signed a new deal for 2022.

The Bellewstown native is heading into his fourth season with the club after joining ahead of the 2019 season from St. Patrick’s Athletic.

Heeney made 30 appearances in his first season in senior football in 2019, scoring once, in a 4-2 win at home to Athlone Town.

The 2020 season saw Heeney limited to nine appearances due to an injury picked up against Shamrock Rovers II.

However, he played a vital part in the run in, including scoring the second goal against Cabinteely on the final day of season to seal the First Division title and promotion back to the Premier Division.

The 22-year-old made a further 30 appearances for his local side in the Premier Division in 2021, to bring his tally to 70 appearances in three seasons to date.

“I’m delighted to be back on board for another year. I love it here and as soon as Kev got in contact with me to sign back, I didn’t have to think twice,” Heeney said.
