Kevin Doherty signs two-year full-time contract

Drogheda United FC proudly announces that Kevin Doherty has committed his future to the Club as our First Team Manager, transitioning from a part-time to a full-time two-year contract through the 2025 season. We are thrilled to offer him this opportunity. Kevin’s impact over the past two seasons managing Drogheda United’s first team has been remarkable. He has cultivated a culture of intensity, hard work, and care that resonates both on and off the pitch. His leadership style has drawn players to work with him, garnered support from fans, and embodies the essence of what this team and Club represent for the community.

Kevin’s managerial journey began at Shelbourne, where he served as the U19 Team Manager from 2011-12. Then Kevin joined the first team as Assistant First Team Manager from 2013-14 before stepping into the role of First Team Manager from 2014-16. He joined Drogheda United in 2017 as the Assistant Manager, eventually assuming the role of First Team Manager in 2021. Throughout his career, Kevin’s persistence and dedication have remained evident, and he is now ready to embark on the next chapter by committing full-time to the Club.

Wesley Hill, Vice President of Trivela Group, praised Kevin’s impact and character, stating, “His success on the pitch speaks for itself. Just this past season, we beat Rovers, Derry, St. Pats away… all while defying expectations. Beyond the wins and competition, Kevin possesses a deep understanding of each player and the squad, prioritising the team’s well-being and fostering personal growth. He is a leader, a competitor, and eager to help move Drogheda United forward.”

Expressing his excitement, Kevin Doherty, remarked, “I’m absolutely thrilled. Transitioning from part-time to full-time with Drogheda is a dream come true. Wes and I have a shared enthusiasm for propelling this club forward. Drogheda holds immense, untapped potential, and I’m proud to spearhead our journey on the sporting side and continue to build on the identity and success we have all created. And I am ready to compete!”

Joanna Byrne, Chairperson of Drogheda United, added, “From day one Kevin immersed himself in everything Drogheda United is about. He has built a great relationship with officials, volunteers, staff, and sponsors, but more importantly he has a bond and trust with the fanbase. He always has superseded expectations – whilst operating with limited resources in challenging times. Kev’s raw passion is infectious and that is evident when you see the fire he brings out of his players. Never has the Claret & Blue been worn with such energy and determination. He is, in my opinion, probably one of the best managers this club has ever had and I’m confident he is the right man to lead the first team forward at this exciting time for us. His unwavering commitment to Drogheda is heartwarming, he has made our Club his own, and I believe the best is yet to come.”

This significant commitment from Kevin marks a pivotal step in the club’s strategic path towards professionalisation. His multi-year full-time agreement develops the foundation for our vision going forward.
