Drogheda United are delighted to announce the signing of defender Jamie Egan from Bristol Rovers, subject to international clearance.
Egan played for St Kevin’s Boys, Bohemians and Bray at underage level, before moving to Cabinteely. He made the move from Cabinteely’s U-19 setup to Bristol Rovers in August 2020.
Jamie signed his first professional contract with Bristol Rovers in May 2022 following a loan spell with Hereford in the National League North.
Egan had short loan spells with Gloucester City and Weymouth before returning to Hereford on loan for the second half of the 2023 season, making his second debut in a 1-0 win against Kettering.
“I’m delighted to have signed Jamie. He’s a great addition to us, has plenty of experience for such a young player, at Bristol Rovers and on loan aswell at a really good level,” manager Kevin Doherty said.
20-year-old Egan has been training with the team in recent weeks, and now bolsters Kevin Doherty’s defence for the remainder of the season.
“I’ve known about it for a few weeks now, I came in training with the team after the break, so it was just figuring out the final details. Then, I came here to the game against Dundalk recently, saw the atmosphere here, and I was sold on it.
“I’m very honest, a centre half, so first and foremost I like to defend, win my headers, blocks, tackles and keep clean sheets. At the same time, I like to get on the ball, step in when I can, and play when I can,” Egan said.
