Drogheda United are delighted to announce that James Clarke has signed a new deal with the club.
Clarke is the eighth player to be announced from Tim Clancy’s 2021 Premier Division squad.
The midfielder joined the club from Shamrock Rovers ahead of the 2019 season, having played for the Hoops underage sides in 2017 and 2018.
In his first season in senior football in 2019, Clarke played for Drogheda’s U19 side, reaching the National League semi-final, and also made 17 first team appearances.
His first senior goal came in a 4-2 win at home to Athlone Town in June 2019.
This season saw Clarke make a further 15 appearances for the first team in a shortened season, scoring once. That goal, in a 3-1 win at home to Bray, came second in the Drogheda United Fans’ vote for Goal of the Season.
“It was an easy decision to sign back. I enjoy playing with this team and under Tim and Kev and I’m really looking forward to playing in the Premier next year so I didn’t need to think twice about it,” Clarke said.
“The league win is obviously one that sticks out and that game in particular was probably my favourite because it had a cup final feel to it and we managed to win. Personally I’d say my goal against Bray in the home game is my favourite moment.
“I think the aim would definitely be at a minimum staying up and doing as well as we can. Personally I want to get into the team regularly and make an impact throughout the season.”
