James Brown Signs New Deal For 2021

Drogheda United are delighted to announce that James Brown has signed a new deal with the club.

Brown is the 13th player to be announced from Tim Clancy’s 2021 Premier Division squad.

The full-back first joined the club in November 2018 from Shelbourne, where he had progressed through the underage sides before breaking into the first team in 2016.

Brown’s first season at United Park saw the defender make 30 appearances as Drogheda reached the play-off against Finn Harps.

The 22-year-old re-signed with Drogheda for the 2020 season and made a further 19 appearances in the league and FAI Cup, scoring his first goal for the club on the last day of the season.

Brown scored the first goal in a 2-0 win over Cabinteely in the game that sealed the First Division title and promotion back to Premier Division for the club.

“I never thought twice about signing back. There’s no reason why I wasn’t going to come back this year, love everything about the club from Tim, Kev and the lads on the team to all the background staff.

“It’s an amazing club with big potential. The goal was to get to the Premier and we achieved that. The hard work starts all over again, I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead,” Brown explained.

“Firstly, we’d have to set team goals. We’d definitely want to stay up, that would be number one priority, anything after that is a bonus.

“Personally I’d like to add more assists and goals to my game, I had a few good chances last year but didn’t put enough of them away.

“Having fans back would be massive. There was the game last year against Rovers II, we had 100 people in the ground.

“We won that game in the last minute and I personally believe the atmosphere in the ground gave us a big boost to win that one, so can only imagine what it will be like in the Premier,” Brown said.
