Hugh Douglas Signs New Deal For 2021

Drogheda United are delighted to announce that Hugh Douglas has signed a new deal with the club.

Douglas is the sixth player to be announced from Tim Clancy’s Premier Division squad for 2021.

The defender signs back for a second season with the Boynesiders after first joining from Bray in November 2019.

Douglas had spent the previous five seasons at Bray before joining Drogheda and made 18 appearances in the league and FAI Cup for Tim Clancy’s side in 2020.

His first goal for Drogheda came in a 3-0 win away to Wexford in August as he headed home a Jake Hyland corner.

“The players and management worked so hard to achieve our goal of promotion last season, so it was an easy decision to sign back as we all have the opportunity to test ourselves in the Premier Division against the best teams in the country,” Douglas said.

“Tim and Kevin have been brilliant to me since I’ve joined the club. They have passed on a lot of knowledge, and helped my game improve as both of them played centre half during their careers.

“We have a really good group of hard-working and humble players at Drogheda, with players quickly re-signing for next season, hopefully that continuity will stand to us next year.

“As a team, we need to take it one game at a time and establish ourselves in the league as we’re just newly promoted. Personally, I want to contribute to the team in any way I can to help us stay in the Premier Division.

“Hopefully, next season we can see a United Park with supporters again. They were hugely missed last season, but the players and management really appreciated all the messages of support throughout the season which drove us on and gave us all a boost at tough times,” he said.
