Drogheda United is delighted to be part of the Fighting Words initiative, held in association with St Oliver’s Community College TY students.
The basis for the programme is to encourage creative and meaningful writing amongst young people and this year, the subject of Drogheda Utd FC is at the heart of the project.
Students attended a Drogs training session on Wednesday where they grilled team manager Kevin Doherty and players, Dane Massey and Chris Lyons. They spoke about their involvement in the game, the ups and downs and how hard it can be for part-time players in the league these days.
The questions from the students were incisive and positive and certainly got the lads thinking!T
he next phase of the programme will see the students attend the game on Friday night against St Patrick’s Athletic and next week, they complete their assignments.
“It was great to meet the students and I think both they and the players learned a little bit from the experience. I hope Fighting Words produces some great writers in the future,” General Manager Hubert Murphy stated.
