Drogheda United are delighted to confirm that defender Evan Weir has signed a new deal with the club.
Weir has been a regular in Kevin Doherty’s side this season, making 20 appearances so far this season, scoring three times.
Those goals included a late second goal to seal the win away to UCD and the equaliser in the 3-1 comeback win over Finn Harps at Head in the Game Park.
The defender has impressed at both his natural position of left back, and in more recent weeks at left centre back.
“Absolutely delighted. Evan’s been excellent since he came in. He’s played the majority of the matches and he’s been excellent. He’s still a young player, still learning so I’m delighted to have him signed up,” manager Kevin Doherty said.
“He’s been a superb signing, turned out really really well. I went to watch him in December in Whitehall, playing for the Irish Universities.
“Straight away, I said I had to sign him. Three players that stood out that night were Evan, James Clarke, and Collie McCabe. It was good, our two lads already playing with him and he knew them.
“He settled in really well and has been brilliant whether he’s playing left back or at left centre back. I’m just delighted to have him signed up,” Doherty explained.
