DUFC Community Foundation supporting the Ardee Late Night Leagues

DROGHEDA United FC were delighted to be part of the awards night at the annual Mid Louth Late Night Leagues, hosted by Dee Hub in Ardee.

“Promoting and getting behind the late night leagues is something we want to be associated with as part of our DUFC Community Foundation,” Drogheda’s General Manager Hubert Murphy stated.

“We were delighted to go along to the event and support the wonderful organisers and the FAI who played a key role over the six weeks.”

Niall Newberry and his team have been running the leagues – when not impacted by Covid – over the last few years and the interest is growing rapidly. The first night they had 18 at the all-weather in the park and that had hit closer to 40 by the end, with total engagement surpassing 140 young people between the gaes of 12 and 17.

“It was a resounding success and we are hoping to go again in April,” Niall stated.

He thanked Mick Neville and Paul Smith from the FAI for their great efforts as well as Ardee gardai and their community engagement team. Local councillors John Sheridan and Jim Tenanty were also very supportive. The Dundalk Youth Centre and the Mid Louth Foroige and the Dee Hub, along with the New Leaf Mid Louth Youth Service all got involved.

“It is great to see Drogheda United FC coming on board to support us as well, it’s huge for the community and the people taking part that a League of Ireland club would support it. The jersey we got from the club will be framed and go up on the wall,” Niall added. The club said they will return in April to further the leagues and encourage even more to take part.

“As a League of Ireland club, we want to be associated with sporting projects in the entire region, and encourage young people to be part of these wonderful schemes,” Hubert stated.

Mick Neville from the FAI said they were delighted to be associated with the leagues and work on them in Dundalk and Drogheda too.
