David Odumosu has been named as Drogheda United Fans’ Young Player of the Year for 2020.
The 19-year-old goalkeeper played in all 18 of the Boynesiders league games this season, keeping six clean sheets, including two in the last two games of the season.
“I want to thank the fans especially. I want to thank the players aswell and the staff.
“Winning the First Division was great and then winning this aswell is even better aswell for myself. Just a massive thanks to the fans and all my teammates,” Odumosu said.
Odumosu made two important penalty saves this season, one against Cabinteely on the final day of the season to keep Drogheda 2-0 in front, and the other in a 3-1 win away to UCD in September.
Drogheda were winning 2-1 before UCD were awarded a penalty late on. Odumosu produced a brilliant save, diving to his right to deny Yoyo Mahdy from the spot, keeping Drogheda ahead before Brandon Bermingham sealed all three points late on.
“The UCD game was definitely one of the highlights this year. That was a must win game and to save a penalty that late to keep us winning the game and to then go on and win 3-1 was definitely a highlight this season.
“I cherish all the clean sheets I got this season and that comes from the work of teammates aswell.”
