Drogheda United Fans’ – Player of The Year 2020

Mark Doyle has been named as Drogheda United Fans’ Player of the Year for 2020.

The winger played in all of Drogheda’s competitive games this season, scoring 13 times in 18 league games, finishing only behind the UCD strike partnership of Yoyo Mahdy and Colm Whelan in the goalscoring standing.

The 21-year-old has now made 108 appearances for the club scoring 37 goals, since making his senior debut for the club in 2016.

“I’m delighted to win it, great honour. I think I got a lot of goals this season in a short amount of games.

“I’ve only one more goal than I got last year in less games. It’s an honour to win, thanks to the fans for voting for me,” Doyle said.

Doyle was one of three members of the current squad, along with Jake Hyland and Adam Wixted who played in the promotion play-off win against Wexford in 2016.

Both Hyland and Doyle have spent the last five years at the club, and alongside Conor Kane, have the most appearances for the club of anyone in the squad.

“Jake played a big part in 2016 but I was still with the 19s then and I was kind of in and out of the squad, on the bench.

“I wasn’t involved that night against Wexford but to actually get promotion in a team where I’ve played every week it was great. You feel like you are a big part of it. It was great, I thought we deserved it.
