Brandon Bermingham’s stunning long range strike against Shamrock Rovers II has been voted as Drogheda United Fans’ Goal of the Season for 2020.
The 18-year-old from Duleek rescued a point for Drogheda in what was an eventful game in August. The Boynesiders fell 2-0 behind and were down to 10 men before Mark Doyle got one back before half time.
It was the 82nd minute when Bermingham collected a pass from Jack Tuite and unleashed his effort into the top corner past Leon Pohls, to score his first goal in senior football, and earn Drogheda a point.
“I’d like to thank the fans who voted for the goal of the season. There was a good few goals to choose from this season so I’m delighted with the award,” Bermingham said.
“The season has been great collectively and individually. Winning the league was everyone’s objective at the start and to do it on the last day of the season was special.
“Personally I really enjoyed the season and was happy with how I contributed, just looking forward to getting back to it now.”
Bermingham made 17 appearances this season (16 league + 1 FAI Cup), scoring five times, including an important brace in the 3-1 win away to Galway in the last week of the season.
