Drogheda United Football Club are please to announce the launch of our Christmas Food Appeal and are urging locals to help their community this Christmas.
Drogheda Cares for the Homeless, Drogheda Homeless Aid, and their neighbours in Connect Family Resource Centre will be the three beneficiaries of items collected in our three-week appeal.
Speaking about the launch the club’s General Manager John Matthews stated that following on from the support and encouragement the town has given DUFC over the past few months the club wants to give back in any small way they can.
“As a club, we are acutely aware that people and families may struggle this year more than ever given the times we are in.
“The impact of Covid-19 has led to unprecedented battles with poverty and we recognise the charity partners we have teamed up with may come under additional pressures to help our community through these tough times. We want to help where we can and try to ease some of this pressure.”
Five local businesses have teamed up with the Drogs and are allowing their shops to be used as drop-off points for anybody who wants to donate dry foods and non-perishable goods from Mon 9th November – Mon 30th November:
• Mace, Clogherhead
• The Village Store, Aston Village
• Boston Donuts, Drogheda Town Centre
• Crazy Fruit, Southgate Shopping Centre
• Centra, Tullyallen
The club’s Community Liaison Officer Joanna Byrne has said that the willingness from these shops has been the key to this project taking off.
“We are blown away by the backing these shops have given us in this project. They, like us, recognise the ongoing work our charity partners do to help the most vulnerable in our town and are only too happy to facilitate our appeal. Without the support of these shops to use as drop-off points, this wouldn’t be possible.
“As people are shopping local over the coming weeks, we will have a drop-off box in each store and I’m appealing to the public to support our efforts, any donation small or large to this appeal will be greatly appreciated.
“Drogheda United prides itself on being a club embedded in our community and I’ve no doubt our supporters will get behind us on this and together we can play our part in helping our community this Christmas.”
