Drogheda United are delighted to announce that midfielder Darragh Markey has signed a new deal with the club.
The 27-year-old will be heading into his fifth season with the club, having first joined ahead of the 2021 season.
Markey, who was named SSE Airtricity/Soccer Writers Ireland Player of the Month for November this week, has now made 141 appearances across his four year spell in claret and blue. Of those appearances, 42 came in 2024, the most of any Drogheda player last season.
“After winning the FAI Cup and writing our names into the club’s history, it would have been very difficult for me to leave.
“This is going to be my fifth year here now. In my first year here the goal was to establish ourselves in the league, we have managed to do that.
“Now we have progressed to a stage where we have European football to look forward to, and I cannot wait,” Markey said.
Markey is the third player to be announced as having re-signed with the club today, after the announcements of Shane Farrell and Luke Dennison earlier today.
“I’m thrilled to announce the re-signing of these three key players as we look to build on the work we started last season.
“The club is progressing on and off the field, and I know the team and staff are looking forward to transitioning to full time football next year,” manager Kevin Doherty said.
