Drogheda United are delighted to announce the signing of defender Conor Kane.
Kane spent the second half of the 2023 season on loan at the club from Shelbourne.
The 25-year-old made 12 appearances last season for Kevin Doherty’s side, adding to the 140 appearances he had made in claret & blue in a five year spell at the club from 2017 to 2021.
The left-back has scored one goal for the club in his 152 appearances so far, a stunning long range effort away to Galway United in our 2020 First Division title winning season.
“I’m delighted to be back. It was a no brainer for me so I’m glad it was all finalised quickly.
“When I came back on loan it was first about playing for me. Then we were waiting to see what would happen at the club with the ownership but I always wanted to come back, so I’m delighted to have it completed.
“My first game back here was against Cork, and the atmosphere was something else. It shows how well the club has come on in the last couple of years too.
“It’s a very exciting time for the club. If you look back to 2017 when I was first here, we weren’t winning games but the club has had a good few years since, and kept building on from there.
“The club has dived into the community more, and is attracting younger fans which helps attendances. There’s a great buzz around the club, it’s great to be back,” Kane explained.
Kevin Doherty also expressed his delight at now having Conor Kane as a Drogheda United player again.
“I go a long way back with Conor. Getting him in on loan last season was massive at the time when Manny (Adegboyega) had left.
“When he came into the team, he was a regular starter. It was great for him to get games back under his belt after the injury, and he had some really excellent performances for us.
“He’s another player who knows the value of the club, and being loved at the club, and he certainly is by us. It’s great to have him as a Drogheda United player again, I’m delighted,” expressed Doherty.
