FORMER Louth GAA star Colin Kelly often lit up the O’Raghallaigh’s with his footballing skills and it was the turn of his son, Connell, to shine at the neighbouring Head in the Game Park on Thursday.
The hot prospect, playing for Callystown NS, smashed a glorious hat trick to break the hearts of a fine White Cross NS team in the final of the Peter O’Reilly Memorial Cup tournament.
Kelly scored with a rocket in the first half and after the Julianstown outfit staged a great comeback, Kelly put on a sparkling show in the final few minutes to clinch the title for the first time for Callystown.
The tournament attracted teams from 12 schools for the 5-a-side event in memory of Peter who did outstanding work in the sports field for both St Joseph’s CBS and Drogheda United FC.
Despite the rain, the standard of play was exceptional and St Joseph’s principal Sarah Bradley thanked everyone for their support and management of the day.
St Joseph’s NS in Mell won the Sportsmanship and Fair Play award.
