Drogheda United in the Community | March

New Football Social Responsibility Officer

Drogheda United has recently appointed Aoife Burns as our new Football Social Responsibility (FSR) Officer.

Following her release from Dundalk FC, Drogheda United were delighted to have Aoife join the club and look forward to the skill set she brings to our team of staff and the wealth of experience she has in this field.

In her role, Aoife will develop and implement programmes that can make a positive social impact, as well as help the club improve its climate responsibilities and enhance Drogheda United presence in the community.

School Visits

We visited Donacarney Boys National School and Balscadden National school in March with first team player Bridel Bosakani and the FAI cup. The children and Staff were so excited and we received a very warm and very loud welcome from both schools.

Rio Ferdinand Foundation

We are delighted to partner with Rio Ferdinand Foundation, this partnership will help us as a club bring positive change, fund programmes, and will create opportunities and pathways for young people to empower equality, drive social mobility and realise their potential.

Daffodil day

We were delighted to support Daffodil day by selling the Daffodil day pins at the car park hatch. Drogheda is the longest-running town in the country for daffodil Day street collections, with over 35 years of dedicated fundraising. In that time, the town has raised hundreds of thousands of euro for the Irish Cancer Society – a phenomenal achievement by an extraordinary community.

Wear Red Day

The first team supported Show Racism the Red Card on the national Wear Red Day on the 31st March. This campaign is run by FAI in collaboration with the education project Show Racism the Red Card, an annual anti-racism campaign to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Drogheda United is committed to Show Racism the Red Card and will be delivering the school programme to local schools in conjunction with the immigrant council of Ireland, FAI and League of Ireland in the coming months.

If your school is interested in participating in this programme please email aoife.burns@droghedaunited.ie

Half Time matches February and March

For our first home match of the season which was against Sligo Rovers on 21st February, we welcomed Drogheda Boys  U-11s (Claret) and Drogheda Boys U-11s (Blue). Both teams play in Division 3 of  the DDSL league in Dublin. The Blue team play on Saturdays while the Claret team play on Sundays.

For our home match against Galway United on 28th February we had East Meath United ‘s special needs group. The group of 25 players also provided the Guard of Honour on the night and played their own game at half-time. The visit was part of the FAI’s FOOTBALL FOR ALL programme.

On the 14th March we welcomed Boyne Rovers U-12s  from Drogheda, who play in the Premier Division of the North Eastern Regional League (NERL). This year is proving to be hugely successful for the club with  Boyne’s U-13s and U-14s both reaching the last 8 of the SFAI Cup and an amazing 7 players from Boyne Rovers U-14s being selected for the Kennedy Cup squad (Panel of 18) in June 2025.
