Drogheda United are delighted to announce that Chris Lyons has signed a new deal with the club.
Lyons is the seventh player to be announced from Tim Clancy’s 2021 Premier Division squad.
The forward first joined the club ahead of the 2018 season from Shelbourne.
After scoring 8 goals in 29 games in his first season with the club, Lyons re-signed for 2019 and netted 15 times in 28 games.
Lyons was named in the PFAI First Division Team of the Year in 2019 and named as one of three nominees for the PFAI First Division Player of the Year award.
Now heading into his fourth season with the club, Lyons has to date 73 games for the Boynesiders, scoring 27 goals.
“It was a no brainer for me to sign back for Drogheda. I have played here for three seasons. Our aim was to get to the Premier and we done that last year. So I was delighted to have got call off Tim and to get the deal done,” Lyons explained.
“Has to be the feeling of Jimmy (Brown) scoring the goal against Cabo last game of the season,” Lyons said when asked about his standout moment from the 2020 season.
“It was an amazing feeling for us all because I knew we would not lose that game after that moment. And the feeling after Bray away was a massive win for the club aswell that was a great buzz.
“I personally want to play and help the team as much as I can. Hopefully I can have a better season fitness wise for myself as last year was a nightmare for myself. As in my fitness, I was struggling from after lockdown.
“And for the team to just compete against the best and show how good we can be, take each game as it comes and mostly to enjoy it.
“We have a great team spirit and that comes from the management. They are excellent around the lads so that helps us on the pitch. And we always stick together as we seen last year.”
