MU17 vs Derry City

Our MU17s got their first win of their campaign today, beating Derry City 2-0 in the MDL

Brandon Gough Smith brilliantly saved a penalty in the first half to ensure the game remained 0-0 at half-time.

An improved second half performance overall and goals from Cian O’Leary (assisted by Tunde Anunlopo) on 60 minutes and Richard Nwosu (assisted by Matthew McCloskey) gave the home side a deserved win.

The MU17s continue their campaign next Sunday at Home to St. Patrick’s Athletic.

MU14 vs Derry City

Drogheda United MU14s hosted Derry City in the MDL on a glorious sunny day. Drogheda started brightly and almost broke through from the tip off only for the Derry defence to react quickly to snuff out the attack. The scoreline doesn’t tell the whole story of the competitiveness of the game.

On 12 mins Drogheda went behind to a long ball from Derry which the Derry players reacted quicker and make it 1 – 0. Drogheda came more into game when, on 35 mins. Drogheda fashioned an excellent attacking chance with a slick passing movement in midfield with the final pass releasing the centre forward one on one versus the Derry goalkeeper. However, Drogheda were to be denied by the Derry goalkeeper on this occasion.

On 45 mins Derry stretched their lead to 2 0 with an unstoppable shot into the top corner. Still Drogheda kept competing and created another chance which, only for some last ditch defending saw Derry clear their lines. Drogheda continued to press on and had a number of free kicks in dangerous areas but Derry defended solidly to hold back the attacks and clear their lines.

Derry were to score again on 84 mins to bring it to 3-0. Drogheda kept pressing and again came close with a free kick to the back post which Derry cleared. Next up is St Pats away on Sun 16th Mar 2025.
