MU17 vs Derry City

The MU17s travelled to the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium to face Derry City yesterday afternoon.

The game finished in a 1-1 draw that the away side were disappointed with given their performance. A strong midfield performance gave Drogheda the majority of the chances in the 1st half and a brilliant long range goal from Harry McGuirk gave the away team the lead going in at half time.

A late goal from a corner gave Derry City an equaliser punishing Drogheda’s earlier missed chances.

The MU17s continue their campaign away to St. Pat’s next Sunday.

MU14 vs Derry City

DUFC MU14s travelled to the Vale Centre for the return fixture against Derry U14s. The picturesque venue is very much open to the elements and while there was a strong wind in one direction both sides adapted well to the conditions.

Drogheda settled into the game and with the wind at their backs were putting Derry under pressure but the physicality of the Derry defence was effective in nullifying the Drogheda threat. On 11 mins Derry went ahead when they pressed Drogheda on their goal kick. The game ebbed and flowed and Drogheda continued to look to push on when on 32 mins Derry struck again to go 2 up.

Drogheda responded 6 mins later when they stole the ball on a high press to make it 2 1. Derry responded with a number of substitutions which took the game away from Drogheda who continued to commit to working hard and looking for opportunities to play the game. Next game away to St Pat’s 4th May.
