MU17 vs St. Patrick’s Athletic

Our MU17s continued their season at home to St. Pats in the MDL this evening. The hosts made a flying start going ahead after 3 mins from a well worked corner routine with Richard Nwosu converting from an assist from Joey Hegarty.

The lead didn’t last long with the visitor’s equalising after 7 minutes. Drogheda United restored their lead after a fantastic team move after 15 minutes with Tunde Anunlopo converting a cross by Matthew McCloskey who also hit the cross bar after a fantastic run soon after. No further goals in the first meant Drogheda finished the first half 2-1 up.

The score remained the same until stoppage time with the visitor’s scoring from a corner to make the game 2-2. However, there was still time for the home side to try win the game with Cian Wilson hitting the post deep into 10 minutes of stoppage time.

The game finished 2-2 with the home side happy with the performance but disappointed with the result given the lateness of the equaliser and hitting the woodwork twice.

The MU17s continue their campaign next Sunday away to Dundalk.

MU14 vs St. Patrick’s Athletic

Drogheda United MU14s hosted St Patricks Athletic in the MDL Navan on a crisp bright March day, perfect conditions for football. Drogheda worked hard in trying to match a physically stronger St Pats side who were combining well in all areas of the pitch.

The speed of play from St Pats and the availability of passing options keep Drogheda on the back foot for most of the first period. Despite the incessant pressure Drogheda had moments of opportunity and only for a last ditch clearance by the retreating St Pats defence after the keeper had been beaten saw St Pats retain their lead.

As the game progressed Drogheda continued to compete and started to put together some solid phases of play. However St Pats continued to prevail and were clinical in front of goal. Drogheda had their moments with some fine combination play, however it was not enough to derail St Pats who ran out comfortable winners in the end.

Next up for the MU14s is away to Dundalk MU14s.
