MU20 vs Dundalk

The U20s travelled to Dundalk for the Louth Derby & the final game of the phase & started brightly, going 1-0 up three minutes into the game with a ball played to Dare Kareem who laid off for Taylor Mooney who found Zishim Bawa’s great run. Bawa dribbled on & finished past Minogue in the Dundalk net.

Drogheda were dangerous from set pieces & a great ball by Kieran Cruise found Evan Haddock. His header was defended well on the line. Drogheda continued to dominate the majority of the half & a couple of chances fell to Bawa & Kareem which Minogue made some good saves from. Ultan McLaughlin got a lot of joy down the Dundalk left side which got us into good areas & created some good goal scoring opportunities but Dundalk held on until half time.

In the second half, Dundalk came out but Drogs defended excellently. Haddock, Povall & Graham organised the whole team from the back & continued pushing us up the pitch. Drogs shape paid off by forcing Dundalk to go back that led to a mistake by Dundalk keeper, leaving Kareem with an open net to make it 2-0. Subs Wilson & Bonner went close but we couldn’t find the third goal that our play deserved.

Dundalk got a controversial penalty in the last minute but justice was served as Theo Hennessy made the save to get the clean sheet that Drogheda deserved. A great win to finish the phase.

WU17 vs Peamount United

Drogheda United WU17 lost 3-0 to Peamount today. The scoreline is a little unfair to the girls as both teams put in good performances.

Peamount took the lead after a mis-kick by our defender ended up in the back of the net. Drogheda United WU17 matched Peamount of effort and chances but in terms of luck, Peamount got the breaks.

Early into the second half, tremendous work by Caitlyn O’Donohue and Sophie O’Boyle created a chance for an equaliser but O’Boyle hit the post, O’Donohue’s rebound was saved, the ball came back to O’Boyle, her shot hit the goalkeeper, came back to her and the goalkeeper saved again.

Peamount scored a second when the Drogheda defender and goalkeeper got their wires crossed, the ball bounced out to the feet of the Peamount forward and she tapped it in. Drogheda United continued to press for their opening goal but Peamount scored their 3rd with a counter attack late on.

Next up for the girls are DLR in the cup on May 24th in DIFE.

MU15 vs Dundalk

Drogheda United U15s travelled to Oriel Park for a local derby against Dundalk. This was a game of two halves. Drogheda started very strong and continued to make clear-cut opportunities, but with out being ruthless enough in the final third.

At halftime, the sides were level. Changes were made and unfortunately for the Drogs, we didn’t impact the second half like the first. Conceding three poor goals gave the home team all three points.

Next up for the boys is a home game in the cup on the 24th May against Finn Harps.
