MU15 vs Derry City

Drogheda MU15s visited Derry at the waterside on a beautiful spring day. The game kicked off, and the home team started strong. Great defensive displays by Ben Doyle, Aaron McQuaid and GK James Pullen kept the score at 0-0.

Drogheda grew into the game and with a powerful run by Conor Hassett who was brought down in the box, a penalty was given. Conor converted the penalty to put the Drogs 1-0 up. Great attacking play by fullbacks Jayden Kearns and Alex Curran, who linked up well with wide players Gearoid Hannigan and James O’Neill helped create more chances.

There were powerful displays in the middle by Evan Carberry and Alex Carainica, which helped Drogheda stretch their lead to 3 with another 2 from Hassett to complete his hatrick. The fourth came from a lovely through ball from Carberry to the Evan Kelly, whose pace frightened the Derry defence. Evan converted his chance to make it 4 at the break.

Derry came out strong in the 2nd half as expected and pulled a goal back very quickly. Drogheda stuck to their principles but unfortunately conceded another to make it 4-2…..nervous times but substitution Sean Hegarty scored a great goal to put 3 between the sides.

Great second half displays by Cillian Gunnery and Sam Eglington in the midfield. Tireless work rate from Adam Johnstone and Darragh Reilly Brannigan helped Drogheda to get another penalty, which was converted by Alex Carainica. Goalkeeper Liam Greenslade, who came on for James Pullen, made a great save near the end as Drogheda won 6-3! Great 3 points on the road for the Drogs and a first win of the campaign for the U15s!

MU20 vs Derry City

Drogheda under 20s were held to a scoreless draw by Derry City at Wilton Park.

The visitors struggled to create many clear cut chances and when they did the failed to hit the target.

The Drogs were solid at the back and well organised but just couldn’t break the deadlock and were disappointed to drop 2 points.

Next up are St Pats away at TU Dublin in Blanchardstown on Saturday.
