MU20 vs Shelbourne

Drogheda United U20s started their league title defence with a hard-fought 1-1 draw away to Shelbourne at the AUL. In an intense battle, Shelbourne had more possession, but Drogheda’s disciplined defensive work and attacking intent created the better chances.

After a competitive opening spell, Drogheda broke the deadlock through Harry O’Connor, who finished confidently after good work from Dare Kareem. The visitors had a golden opportunity to double their lead just minutes later when they were awarded a penalty, but Shelbourne goalkeeper Ali Topcu made a crucial save to deny Drogheda’s number 9. Drogheda spurned a couple of other chances but couldn’t find the net.

Shelbourne pushed for an equaliser and found it in the 83rd minute, capitalising on a set-piece to head home from a corner. The closing stages saw both sides searching for a winner, but neither could find the breakthrough, leaving the points shared in what was a fair result overall.

MU15 vs Shelbourne

It was a very even and entertaining first half in the AUL. Both teams had chances but unfortunately we came in at halftime 1-0 down.

With a change in formation and the introduction of a few fresh legs we got back into the game with a well worked and well taken goal from Darragh Reilly-Branigan.

At 1-1, we looked like scoring next and had a goal ruled out for offside. Created great chances but two late goals saw Shels win the game 3-1. Unlucky on the day but all in all, a great performance from the team to start the season.

WU17 vs Shamrock Rovers

Our WU17’s season started with a tough fixture vs Shamrock Rovers. Rovers, playing with a lot of Ireland internationals in their team, won the game.

Great credit must go the Drogheda Utd WU17 team for their incredible work rate and never give up attitude.

There were good performances all round, most notably from Ruby Broderick-Kinsella, Katie Clarke and Freya Sayers.
