Under 15s Match Report: Drogheda United 1-2 St Patrick's Athletic

The Drogs Under 15s were desperately unlucky at United Park on Thursday night when they lost out to a strong Pats side by the narrowest of margins. They started off very well and moved the ball smartly at every opportunity and on 6 minutes they were awarded a corner, and from this well taken set piece, Nick Pavlov headed powerfully to the net from close range to give the Drogs the lead.

This score stung the visitors into action and they missed a few chances but got on level terms on 26 minutes from close range. From there to the half time whistle, the Drogs were mostly on the defensive, with keeper Ignat making a number of crucial saves and John McDonagh making a great clearance to keep the Drogs in the game and the teams went in 1-1 at half time.

On the restart Pats continued to apply the pressure and from set pieces and a more direct and physical approach they pressed the Drogs defence, but the home side were well prepared and with Ignat in great form they took everything the visitors could throw at them and launched a few dangerous attacks of their own.

And just as it looked as it would end at 1-1, with 2 minutes to go, Pats took advantage of a momentary lapse in concentration in the home defence and they took the lead. As time ran out , the Drogs forced two corners, and from the second of these they struck the post, not once , but twice, and just could not force the ball home.

Coach Morgan Hughes can be well pleased with this performance as the team continued to play very disciplined football even though they were under severe pressure from the visitors for most of the second half.
