Drogheda United will go in search of their first win in three games when they face St Patrick’s Athletic at Richmond Park on Friday, kick-off 7.45pm.

The Drogs have been frustrated with two successive draws at United Park against Sligo Rovers and then Galway United last week.

Despite taking the lead twice against the Tribesmen, Drogheda conceded deep into injury time though Mahon feels his side has responded well to the disappointing result.

“Training has gone really well this week,” Mahon explained Wednesday evening. “We only did a one hour session this evening due to the heat but I feel we’re well prepared.

“The lads know that we missed out on two points last week. Watching the goal back, there were five players who made a mistake in that one phase of play. It was like a chain reaction but we need to draw a line under it now.”

Drogheda won the previous meeting between the sides this season though Mahon is weary of the Saints despite their position in the league.

“I’m not quite sure why St Pat’s are where they are in the table but it’s not my concern. My focus is on Drogheda United and getting us away from that danger zone.

“If you take Cork and Dundalk out of it, there is very little between all the other sides in the league. Even at this stage you can see so many teams fighting for their lives and every point counts.

“I think if we match the performances of recent week and are a little more clinical in either penalty area, we won’t be far off getting the three points.”

Drogheda have injury doubts over Adam Wixted (back) and Richie Purdy (hamstring) with Colm Deasy set to return to training next week.

Gavin Brennan will be unavailable due to suspension.
