The Drogs Under 19s suffered their second defeat on the bounce at sunny Richmond Park when they eventually went down 3-0 to a strong Pat’s team. From the kick-off it was clear that this was not going to be an easy afternoon for the visitors. In the opening 20 minutes the home team had about six clear chances to take the lead but these were thwarted by a combination of poor finishing by the home team and good defending by the Drogs, particularly from keeper Evin Farrell, who made a great point-blank stop on 17 minutes.

After 20 minutes, the Drogs started to string a few passes together and Fionn Reilly had a good chance saved from a cross from the hard-working Conor Byrne. But, inevitably, the home team’s superiority finally yielded its rewards when they took the lead on 42 minutes after a rather tame shot deceived the Drogs defence on the left hand side.

The Drogs started the second half brightly and Dale Harding had a good shot saved on 49 Minutes. Ollie Hamzat was introduced for Andrew Browne on 53 minutes and he brought a bit of added zip to the Drogs attack as they looked better moving forward, but failed to take a number of the half-chances they created.

On 70 minutes, Evin made another point blank save to keep the score at 1-0, but a minute later he had no chance from a well-struck shot to the top corner of the net after a Pats’ free was headed out by the Drogs defence. The tin hat was placed on proceedings on 78 minutes when Drogs full back Sam McGowan received a second yellow card for diving in the box during a promising attack. The home team made it 3-0 from a close range shot in the last minute after some sustained attacking.
