The Drogs second match in the competition ultimately ended disappointingly, but it was a close affair with the visitors scoring the decisive goal 15 minutes from full time.
The Drogs started brightly and moved the ball well out of defence and took charge in midfield with Harper and Doyle making good use of possession. O’Keefe led the line well and it looked to be only a matter of time before the Drogs opened the scoring. On one of their rare first half attacks, the visitors struck the post. Still the Drogs continued to press and David was clean through but shot straight at the keeper. Mark Doyle tried hard and had a few efforts wide of the target from good positions.
It was 0-0 at half time and the visitors seemed to benefit from a good team talk at the interval as they started the second half well and as time went on the Drogs looked less likely to score. The visitors took the lead with 15 minutes to go when Ronan Browne was unlucky not to be able to hold a very well-struck shot and the ball dropped into the net. Despite valiant efforts from the Drogs, the visitors held firm till the final whistle.
